CrewAssign

Release notes

Every CrewAssign release and what changed in it — on the web apps, on iPhone and iPad, and on Android. Newest first. Last updated 11 September 2026.

1.0.5

September 2026 — current release

  • Android — live
  • iOS — in review
  • Web — live

Scheduling moved onto the phone, and the app got considerably better at staying signed in where there is no signal.

New

  • Schedule a visit from your phone. Admins can create a visit straight from the calendar, press and hold an empty slot to book that time, or add one from a job site — where the site is fixed, so a visit cannot land on the wrong address by accident.
  • Add tasks while you schedule. Pick from the job site’s open tasks or type new ones as you create the visit, instead of creating the visit and then going back for the work.
  • Real calendar and time pickers throughout scheduling, in place of typed–in dates.

Fixed

  • Staying signed in with no service. Opening the app on a job site with no signal could send you to a sign–in screen that cannot work offline. Your identity is now saved when you sign in, rather than on a later launch that happens to have coverage — so signing in at the shop and reopening the app in a basement keeps your schedule.
  • “Too many biometric attempts” when you had not missed one. The app counted several conditions that are not a failed scan — including the phone’s own Face ID lockout, which returns instantly without ever showing a prompt — toward the three–strike limit. Only a genuinely rejected scan counts now.
  • “New visit” opens blank. The form used to reappear holding the visit you had just created.

1.0.4

September 2026 — superseded by 1.0.5

  • iOS — live
  • Android — live
  • Web — live

CrewAssign is now publicly available on all three surfaces: the web apps, the App Store, and Google Play.

New

  • A way back when photo access is switched off. If Camera or Photos is turned off for CrewAssign, tapping Change Photo now opens a pop–up with an Open Settings button that takes you straight to the app’s own page in your phone settings. Previously that screen was a dead end on iPhone.
  • “All day” time off. A checkbox under the start and end times, so booking a whole day off no longer means spinning a clock to 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM. On the phone and on the web.

Changed

  • AI suggestion cards on photos are switched off for now. They will come back once they are more useful. Nothing else about photos changed.

1.0.3

September 2026 — superseded by 1.0.4

  • iOS — released
  • Android — testing only
  • Web — live

New

  • Turn Face ID or fingerprint unlock on or off in the app. A Security switch on Profile (crew) and Your Account (admin) — the app no longer decides for you.
  • Pull down to refresh on every screen of the phone app.
  • A Location switch on your Profile. It shows whether clock–in location is on and turns it on in one tap; the clock–in screen now has an Open Settings button when your phone has stopped asking.
  • Admins can reset a worker’s password — Workers → the worker → Reset password, on the web and on the phone. The worker is signed out everywhere and picks their own password at the next sign–in.
  • A Feedback inbox for admins. Everything sent from Help → Send feedback, in its own place instead of buried in the audit log.
  • Your app version is printed at the bottom of Profile (crew) and More (admins), so you can quote it to support while signed in.

Improved

  • Pull to refresh now works on the Time Off and Materials tabs as well.
  • Face ID and fingerprint prompt the moment you open the app when you chose to stay signed in, instead of waiting for a tap under the password form. A “Welcome back” card sits above the form; the form itself is the fallback.
  • Back goes back. The ‹ Back button returns you to the screen you came from, rather than to the first tab.
  • Drag a task and the list reorders as you move, not only when you let go.
  • When the phone cannot reach the server, screens say “You’re offline” in plain words instead of showing the raw network error.
  • Clocking in and out on Android is as fast as on iPhone.
  • The green “You’re clocked in” box on the Schedule opens the visit you are clocked in at, where Clock Out is.

Fixed

  • The web app no longer shows the first–run walkthrough again after you sign out and back in.
  • Setting a new password from the web now lands you cleanly on the sign–in screen instead of erroring or looping.
  • The “you’re offline — the photo will upload” note clears once your photos have synced.
  • When an admin resets a worker’s password on a phone, the temporary–password box is no longer hidden behind the keyboard.
  • Opening the app with no signal keeps you signed in and shows your saved schedule. It used to leave you on the sign–in screen, which cannot work offline.
  • Feedback and notification emails reach their inbox again. A permissions change in August had been silently blocking every email the service sent.
  • The first–run walkthrough on the web shows once per browser, not again after every sign–out.
  • The “you’re offline — the photo will upload” notice goes away once everything has synced.
  • Creating a second job site starts at the top of a blank form.
  • A task added on one device shows on another the first time the visit is opened.
  • The web Help page’s contents list no longer overlaps the text, and a web address typed with a doubled slash no longer errors.

1.0.2

September 2026

  • iOS — live
  • Android — in testing
  • Web — live

New

  • A guided tour on your first sign-in. Five short screens covering where the schedule is, how to clock in, and what happens with no signal. Skip it at any point, and replay it later from Help.
  • Show or hide your password. Tap the eye in any password box — signing in, changing your password, or setting up a worker.
  • Send feedback from inside the app. Help → Send feedback. Your app version travels with the message, so nobody has to ask you for it.
  • Help links to the full documentation and to this page, so you can look something up without hunting for it.
  • Sign back in after restoring your phone. On Android, when you set up a new phone from a backup, CrewAssign can sign you straight back in without retyping your password.
  • Job site dates are editable. Admins can change a job site’s start and estimated end date after it has been created.
  • Add tasks from the visit screen. Admins no longer have to leave a visit and go to the job site to add a task to it.

Improved

  • The “set a new password” screen is now in Spanish as well as English. It is the second screen a new crew member ever sees.
  • Scheduling conflicts now name the visit or the approved time off that is in the way, instead of only saying there is a conflict.
  • Estimate errors are written in plain language rather than raw validation text, and phone number fields accept the formats people actually type.
  • The worker schedule’s list view shows the date on every row, and “My tasks” is easier to pick out from the rest of the day.
  • The admin Calendar tab opens on today rather than the start of the week.
  • The Android app is meaningfully smaller and starts faster.
  • The app stops asking you to unlock it every five minutes. It now waits half an hour, so putting the phone in your pocket between tasks no longer means signing back in.
  • Notifications say what they are about. A new task names the job site and who assigned it; a visit shows the day and time window; a time–off decision shows the dates and your admin’s note. And tapping one opens the thing it is about instead of only marking it read.
  • The link you send a customer now points at their own page (hub.crewassign.app) rather than at the staff console. Links you have already sent keep working.
  • A completed task shows the date and time it was finished.
  • The worker Schedule opens on today, and its calendar button says where the visits are going — your phone’s calendar.
  • The app version and build number are printed at the bottom of the sign–in screen, so you can tell support exactly which one you are on.
  • Workers can reach their profile from the menu in the top right as well as the tab at the bottom.

Fixed

  • Tapping a push notification on iPhone now opens the screen it is about — including when the phone was locked or the app was fully closed.
  • Date pickers and calendars are readable on phones set to Dark Mode.
  • Photos and documents upload from the browser again.
  • “My tasks” and the dashboard’s active job site count refresh on their own instead of waiting for a pull-to-refresh.
  • Workers can see the tasks they proposed while those are still awaiting a decision, and admins see them on the right screen.
  • Assigning a worker from the task editor no longer saves before you press Save.
  • “Add to Calendar” works on Android. It was failing immediately with an error; the visit now lands in your phone’s calendar at the right time.
  • The calendar draws each visit at its real length. An eight–hour job was being drawn as one hour.
  • Clocking in and out records where you were — including the clock–out, which could come back empty when the signal was slow. The app also stops asking for location once you have allowed it, and tells you where to turn it back on if it is off.
  • The dashboard’s numbers are right. Workers Today, Overdue and Tasks done this week were all counting the wrong things — overdue tasks that are not on a visit were invisible, and the day rolled over at the wrong time of the evening.
  • Adding a second job site starts from a blank form instead of keeping the previous one’s details — and two job sites can no longer be given the same name.
  • A task added on one device now appears on another straight away.
  • The materials inbox lists the newest request first, and an urgent–materials alert opens it filtered to what still needs a decision.
  • A suggestion an admin declines stays in the worker’s “Your suggested tasks” list, marked Declined, instead of quietly disappearing.
  • Reassigning a task that is scheduled on a visit now asks first, because it takes the task off that visit.

1.0.1

August – September 2026

  • iOS — live
  • Android — live
  • Web — live

New

  • Native iPad support. The app runs full-screen on iPad instead of in a phone-sized box.
  • Workers can propose tasks. Spot something that needs doing on site, suggest it, and an admin approves or declines it.
  • “My tasks” for workers — everything assigned to you across job sites, in one list.
  • Assign a worker straight from a task, without going back to the schedule.
  • Copy link button on the customer share sheet, for when sharing through the phone’s share menu is not what you want.

Improved

  • CrewAssign moved to crewassign.app. Sign-in, notification emails and the customer hub all live on the new domain.
  • Notification preference switches no longer overlap their labels on narrow phones.

Fixed

  • “Add to calendar” works again on both iPhone and Android.
  • Estimate PDFs download instead of failing.
  • Push notifications are sent for normal-urgency materials requests and for task assignments, which previously produced nothing.
  • Push notifications deliver to iPhones again.
  • Marking all notifications read no longer fails.
  • A worker’s history on the admin web app lists newest first.

1.0.0

August 2026 — first public release

  • iOS — live
  • Android — live
  • Web — live

New

  • Crew scheduling. Build a crew, assign it across the days a job actually runs, and match people to work by skill.
  • Time tracking that works off-grid. Clock in and out with GPS verification; entries queue on the phone and sync when signal returns.
  • Tasks, photos and notes from the field, tied to the job site rather than a text thread.
  • Materials requests from the crew, normal or urgent.
  • Time off requests, approvals and conflict checking.
  • Estimates and invoices, including customer approval.
  • A customer hub homeowners reach by link — no app to install — for progress, appointments and estimate approvals.
  • English and Spanish throughout the apps.
